480HP on Pump Fuel: The Ultimate MX-5 Engine Setup
This MX-5 project represents everything we stand for at Hummelink-Modifications: performance without compromise, built with precision and purpose. Powered by a stroked VVT engine and boosted by a Garrett G25-550, it delivers a brutal 480 horsepower and 527Nm at 2.0 bar, running on 98RON pump fuel.
The bottom end is built around a Maruha 87mm stroker crank, Wössner 84.5mm forged pistons, and Manley rods, all locked down with Mazworx billet main caps and ARP studs.
A Boundary high-flow oil pump paired with a Skidnation oil baffle ensures consistent and reliable lubrication under pressure.
Up top, the cylinder head is fitted with Supertech +1mm Inconel exhaust and intake valves, Catcams valve springs, and Apex Torque head studs. The ported head breathes through a Skunk2 Ultra intake manifold, custom DBW throttle body, and Pipercross filter.
Fuel is delivered via a Radium fuel system and a high-capacity Walbro 525 LPH pump.
The boost setup centers around a Kraken low-mount kit with a Garrett G25-550, full 3” V-band exhaust, and Turbosmart GenV wastegate + Raceport BOV for precise boost control.
It’s all managed by an ECU Master EMU Black, integrated with a complete sensor package, custom harness, and even digital dash integration — bringing modern functionality like cruise control into the mix.
Cooling is dialed in with a Flyin' Miata crossflow radiator, BOFI Racing intercooler, custom reroute setup, and a 19-row oil cooler — ensuring thermal stability no matter the use case.
Putting power down is a BMW 6-speed gearbox (via SPS swap kit), linked to an MFactory 3.30 differential and reinforced drivetrain components.
The chassis is fully refreshed with powdercoated subframes, Skidnation polyurethane bushings, Whiteline anti-roll bars, and BC Racing coilovers, with additional bracing from Beatrush, UltraRacing and Skidnation to tie it all together.
Built with a perfect mix of comfort and chaos, this is more than just a spec sheet — it's a street-capable track weapon, ready for the daily, the weekend, and the race.
