Naturally Aspirated Performance with our range of Individual Throttle Bodies

Our Individual Throttle Bodies (ITBs) bring a host of benefits to your Mazda MX-5, transforming its performance in remarkable ways. Our ITBs optimize airflow due to the optimized port design and velocity stacks, throughout the whole powerband. ITB's are the way to go for everybody looking to get the most out of their naturally aspirated build.

As the name implies, ITB kits use a individual throttlebody for each cylinder. This ensures maximum control on each cylinder and enhanced throttle response. When set-up correctly this results in very smooth operation and optimal air/fuel control between cylinders

Since the throttlebody sits a lot closer to the head as on a OEM intake plenum with single throttlebody, this gives near instant throttle response. After opening the throttle, air has to travel way less of a distance compared to the stock intake, and this is very noticeable.

Our kits are designed after loads of dyno testing and simulations. Ensuring all dimensions are optimal for your Mazda Mx-5 BP or B6. Both diameter and length have a huge impact on performance, either improving, or completely ruining your engine's power curve. Click here for a article which goes deeper into these differences

Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better, unlike most people think. Fitting too big of a diameter throttlebodies to your car can actually really hurt performance. One of the most important thing with a optimally tuned atmospheric engine is correct intake air speed, with correct timing of opening and closing the valves. Using big throttlebodies may very well affect your airspeed in a wrong way, slowing air down due to insufficient vacuum in the intake runners. Using correct diameters, narrowing down the runners at the right places and using the

ideal lenght, will make sure your cylinders get filled with as most air as possible. More air = more fuel = more bang.

Our kits are designed such that air will speed up at the right moment, ensuring optimal cylinder filling and turbulence. The right turbulence will then result in better fuel atomization, helping with better overall combustion, again resulting in more power.

Combine this with perfect cam timing, which will greatly affect where in the RPM range you'll have the most torque and horsepower. The difference of a high performance atmospheric engine lays all in the little details. Optimizing every aspect will get you great results, this is what naturally aspirated tuning is all about. Bigger

camshafts, uprated valves, springs and retainers or other engine components like high compression pistons will get you closer to your goals

A ITB upgrade will not only boosts horsepower and torque but also delivers a distinctive and exhilarating intake sound, creating the ultimate driving experience. ITB's no longer require a MAF or AFM sensor, and are tuned on a standalone like our range of Motorsport Electronics, using a Alpha-N algorithm. Alpha-N fuel and ignition tuning is based on throttle position. The ME442 and ME221 on-board MAP sensor can be used for barometric corrections, such as altitude changes, or boost when used with a turbocharger.

Our range or ITB's

We offer a few variants of individual throttlebody kits for Mazda Mx-5 Miata NA, NB and NB-FL.

For the B6 1.6 engines we're offering 2 variants.

Our Individual Throttle Body Kit 1.6 NA 89-97 Mx-5/Miata will work on every NA 1.6 Miata and comes with the required TPS adapter, intake gasket and the right throttle wheel and bracket for the NA throttle cable lenght.
Our Individual Throttle Body Kit 1.6 NB 98-05 Mx-5/Miata will work on every NB and NB-FL 1.6 Miata and comes with the required TPS adapter, intake gasket and the right throttle wheel and bracket for the NB throttle cable lenght

For the 1.8 BP Miatas you'll need one of the following kits:

Our Individual Throttle Body Kit 1.8 NA 94-97 Mx-5/Miata will work on every NA 1.8 BP-05 Miata and comes with the required TPS adapter, intake gasket and the right throttle wheel and bracket for the NA throttle cable lenght.
Our Individual Throttle Body Kit 1.8 NB 98-05 Mx-5/Miata will work on every NB and NB-FL 1.8 Miata and comes with the required TPS adapter, intake gasket and the right throttle wheel and bracket for the NB throttle cable lenght. Engine codes: BP-4W, BP-6D, and BP-Z3.

Commonly asked questions:

Can I swap my kit from NA to NB?

Yes, but there's a few things to know.

The 1.6 kit fits on all NA and NB heads. Only difference being the throttle wheel and bracket, and TPS adapter. You'll need the kit that fits your chassis, not your engine. The TPS connector and inner throttle cable length make the difference

The 1.8 kit fits all heads too, and uses a dual bolt pattern for the different port height between NA and NB. Same as with the 1.6 kit, You'll need the kit that fits your chassis, not your engine. The TPS connector and inner throttle cable length make the difference

What about engine or head swaps.

Good question, and basically the same thing applies as for swapping between NA and NB. Choose the kit for your chassis year, and engine size.
  • So for example, you're swapping a 1.8 VVT into your NA.
You'll need a 1.8 ITB kit for a 89-97 Miata. The kit will always fit any 1.8 engine, and the throttle cable lenght will be correct as it's for a NA chassis. For this particular engine swap you'll need a different TPS adapter. Please leave a message on checkout about your swap and we'll hook you up with the right adapter.
  • For example a NB6 to NB8 swap, simply get the 1.8 NB kit.
  • And another common swap, NA8 with a BP-05 head upgraded to BP-4W head; NA chassis, 1.8 engine, so you'll need the 1.8 NA kit.
Due to the dual bolt pattern this head swap can be done at any time, without modifications to the kit or head. We really recommend the BP-4W head, as it has a far better intake port from the factory.
